Tattoo studio questions

Can I …? Asked by tattoo artists.

Clients who want Rae and nobody else, a half-day sitting that can’t sit empty, a sleeve that takes four visits and a consent form that has to be signed. Here is how NextSlot runs a tattoo studio — each answer shown on your side of the station and on your client’s phone.

Booking in

Deposits, consultations and the right artist.

Can I take a deposit when someone books a sitting?

Yes. Take a fixed deposit, a percentage or the full price when the client books — £100 on a £300 half-day session, say — paid straight into your studio’s own Stripe account. NextSlot takes 0% commission on it.

Tell us the rule for each service and we switch it on with you. The booking is only confirmed once the payment goes through, and your booking page tells the client: “Your deposit secures the booking and comes off the final price.”

Can clients choose their artist before anything else?

Yes. A tattoo studio’s booking page asks for the artist first: “Choose your artist”. The client who has followed Rae’s work for a year picks Rae, then sees only Rae’s services and Rae’s free times. Anyone happy with whoever is free taps “Don’t Mind”.

Tick which services each artist does on their profile. If only Jules pierces, only Jules is offered for a piercing.

Can clients book a free consultation online?

Yes. Add a Consultation to your services and price it at £0 — 30 minutes, or however long you like. Clients book it with their artist like any other appointment, and with no payment step.

It lands in the artist’s diary, so you know who is coming in to talk a piece through. Rather book big work only after a chat? Switch those services off online and book them from your calendar once the design is agreed.

Pricing the work

From a small piece to a full sleeve.

Can I list a sleeve without putting a price on it?

Yes. Give a service options, each with its own price and time, and leave the price blank on the ones you quote for — a full sleeve, a back piece. They show as “Contact us”: on your menu, but booked through you rather than online.

The options with a price still book online as normal, so a client can book a small piece straight away and talk to you about the big one.

Can a half-day and a full-day sitting have their own price and time?

Yes. Give a session options, each with its own price and time — Half day, 4 hours, £300; Full day, 7 hours, £500 — and the diary books the artist for exactly that long.

Clients see “from £300” and pick their sitting in one tap. They are only offered times when their artist has the whole sitting free.

Can my headline artist charge more than the rest of the studio?

Yes. Give each level in your studio its own price — Artist, Senior Artist, Headline Artist, whatever you call them — and NextSlot charges the right one automatically.

Clients choose their artist first, so the services that follow show that artist’s own prices. Leave a level blank and it charges your normal price.

Consent and care

Signed, set up and cleaned down.

Can I leave time to set up and clean down the station?

Yes. Add a buffer before or after any service — 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 minutes — for laying out a fresh set-up before the client sits down and cleaning the station down after they leave.

Clients never see it and cannot book into it. You see it shaded on your calendar, so the next client never arrives at a station that isn’t ready.

Can I make one client call the studio instead of booking online?

Yes, quietly. Switch on “Block online booking” on their client card and they are asked to call you instead — handy for someone who has missed two sittings, or anyone you want to talk to before they book.

No awkward conversation and no ban notice — and one click undoes it.

The studio

Big pieces, portfolios and guest spots.

Can I book the next sittings of a sleeve all in one go?

Yes. When you book a sitting from your calendar, set it to repeat every week, every two weeks or every month, choose how many visits, and every sitting lands in the artist’s diary at once.

Each one is marked as part of a series. If a client needs longer to heal, cancel just that sitting — or everything still to come. A series is booked by you from the calendar; clients can’t book one online.

Included on all plans

Can clients see each artist’s work before they book?

Yes. Open an artist on your Team page and, under Portfolio, tap “Add photos” to choose up to 9 photos of their work from your media library.

They show when a visitor taps that artist’s face on your profile page, under “Recent work by Rae”, with a “Book with Rae” button right there.

Can I rent a station to a guest artist?

Yes. Set up an agreement for each renter: a weekly or monthly rent, a day rate, a percentage share, or a mix. For a guest spot, set it to Daily: your guest books the days they want a station on their own “My chair” page, the day rate is billed for each one, and clients can book them only on those days.

NextSlot keeps the running statement. You check it, approve it, and a numbered invoice is emailed to your guest. They see their own statements, agreement and clients — never your figures.
