Barbershop questions

Can I …? Asked by barbers.

Walk-ins at the door, regulars who want Bob and only Bob, a Saturday that can’t carry a no-show. Here is how NextSlot runs a barbershop — each answer shown on your side of the chair and on your client’s phone.

The door and the chair

Walk-ins, bookings and the first free chair.

Can I take walk-ins as well as bookings?

Yes. Tap any empty space on your calendar and choose “Add walk-in”. Pick the cut, type their name and they are in the chair and in your books — a phone number is optional.

Got days that are walk-in only? Mark them “Walk-ins only” in your opening hours and your site tells people “Walk-ins welcome” instead of taking bookings online. Walk-ins count in your reports like every other cut.

Can clients pick their barber, or just grab the first free chair?

Yes, both. The regular who only lets Bob near him picks Bob and sees only Bob’s free times. Everyone else taps “Don’t Mind” and gets the first free chair with anyone.

Tick which services each barber does on their profile. If only Sue does cut-throat shaves, only Sue is offered for one.

Can a dad book himself and his two lads together?

Yes. One booking holds up to three people, each with their own cut — a skin fade for him, two kids’ cuts for the boys.

He chooses “At the same time” to put all three in the chairs together, or “One after another” to take turns. NextSlot only offers times when enough barbers are free.

Can I stop Saturday no-shows?

Yes. Tell us the fee and the cut-off and we switch it on with you. Clients then save a card when they book. Nothing is charged up front, and they see the fee in plain words before they confirm.

If someone doesn’t turn up, one button on the booking marks the no-show and charges the fee. Reminders go out before every appointment too, so most people simply turn up.

Prices and timing

Every barber, priced and timed right.

Can my senior barber charge more for a skin fade?

Yes. Give each level in your shop its own price — Barber, Senior Barber, Master Barber, whatever you call them — and NextSlot charges the right one automatically.

Clients see “from £30” on the menu, then the exact price the moment they pick their barber. Leave a level blank and it charges your normal price.

Can my junior take longer over a fade than my senior?

Yes. Next to each level’s price there is a time box. Your senior does a skin fade in 30 minutes, your junior takes 45 — and the diary books each of them for exactly that long.

Clients see that barber’s real free times. No dead gaps in your quickest barber’s day, and no rushing your junior.

Can clients add a hot towel or a beard trim to their cut?

Yes. Create add-ons once and attach them to the cuts they go with. Make the hot towel complimentary and it shows as “Free”; make the beard trim a paid upgrade with its own price and time.

Clients tick them right under their cut, and the total and the length of the booking update on the spot.

Can I offer the pensioners’ price only on weekday mornings?

Yes. Give your seniors’ cut its own online booking hours — Monday to Friday, nine till twelve, say — and that is the only time it books online.

The booking page tells clients when it is available, so nobody is caught out. You can still book it at any time from your calendar.

Regulars

Keep the regulars coming back.

Can I book a regular in every two weeks?

Yes. When you book a regular from your calendar, set it to repeat every week, every two weeks or every month, choose how many visits, and the whole run lands in the diary at once.

Each one is marked as part of a series. If he’s away one week, cancel just that one — or everything still to come.

Can I put a QR code on the mirror?

Yes. Download your booking link as a QR code in one click and put it on the mirror, the window or the back of your card. A client can scan it in the chair and book his next cut before he’s paid for this one.

The links for Instagram, Facebook, Google and WhatsApp are each tagged, so you can see which one brought the booking.

Running the shop

The rest of the shop.

Can I sell wax and beard oil at the till?

Yes. Add your products with prices and barcodes, then sell them at the till by searching or scanning — on their own or alongside the cut.

Stock counts down with every sale, you get a morning email of what is running low, and your barbers can earn commission on what they sell. Products are sold in the shop, not through the booking page.

Can I rent a chair to a self-employed barber?

Yes. Set up an agreement for each renter: a weekly or monthly rent, a day rate, a percentage share, or a mix. Say whose clients are whose and who holds the card-machine money.

NextSlot keeps the running statement. You check it, approve it, and a numbered invoice is emailed to your renter. Your renter signs in to their own “My chair” page and never sees your figures.
